3rd March – Beneath Bath Swap Shop Success!
An evening swap shop took place last Thursday in the vaults of Bath at one of the newer bars in town, Beneath! A beautiful setting with exposed brick walls and a copper bar, this venue was probably one of the most interesting locations we have run a Dopplle event in, and we cannot wait to go back.
The vaulted rooms gave the whole evening a cosy feel, with a free glass of bubbly (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) available to the first 20 lucky swappers. We did spot a few swappers grab a second drink or two during the evening, sampling one of the many cocktails Beneath create! We would recommend paying them a visit.
This was the first time we were using the Dopplle app for the whole swap shop process! We have had a recent update to finalise every part of the swap shop, from check ins, to registering items, giving the virtual coins and then checking out our Doppllers with their “new” pre-loved items! We felt it was a smooth and easy process for all the swappers to use. We had one issue, but that was due to having a lot more people attend than we were expecting! We ran out of labels for the items coming in! An awkward moment but definitely a good problem to have. We now know for the future that if you think you have enough labels for the amount of items being brought to the swap shop, think again!
My favourite part of the swap shop was how many people had found out about it from different avenues! Some heard through the promotion we had done on Bath Spa and the University of Bath campus, others through social media and some through word of mouth!
We also had the Share and Repair store come along and provide a repair service for all our swappers!
Had a pair of jeans with a dodgy zip? Fixed! Needed a small hole to be repaired in your bag that you love? Consider it done!
It was great to see everyone have a chat and find out more about what the Share and Repair store provides and how great it is to repair items and give them that second life.
The evening was a success, running from 6-9pm which allowed all swappers to drop in and out whenever they wanted! Over 200 items of clothing were swapped and saved from landfill! That means around 1350 kg of CO2 was saved – the equivalent to 900 bags of flour.
