5th May – Florals? In spring? Groundbreaking.

Florals? In spring? Groundbreaking.

Every time spring comes around, this quote lives rent free in my head. But for a good reason.

Trends come and go but one thing that is consistent is the soft floral style that comes around each year during spring time. Trends will change but you can confidently keep some staple pieces in your wardrobe that you can reach for each year. Now that is slow fashion.

When you think of patterned clothes, you think of houndstooth, stripes, dots and florals (*insert here* any others you think should be in this list). Florals became more widespread during the early 1900’s when womens fashion started to change. Clothes were not the only thing to become floral patterned, home-wear started to become more floral too.  My grandparents bungalow has floral carpet, curtains, sofas and wallpaper.

The “Flower Power” movement started in the 1960s and 1970s with bright colours and bold patterns. More modern day floral patterns can be seen through Sex in the City icon Carrie Bradshaw’s wardrobe.

Do you remember Kim Kardashian’s floral look at the Met gala in 2013? Iconic but it was not the floral pattern we are more used seeing at that time. Currently, more and more vintage patterned florals are appearing and we are here for it.

If you do not have florals in your wardrobe yet, but want to start adding them in, start with a staple floral dress, one that can be worn with a jumper for the colder spring days, but can also be worn as a summer dress when the weather is good. Here are some Dopplle floral finds that you should get your hands on for that timeless spring look.
