Firstly, what are Dopplle Coins? Dopplle Coins are what we call credits within the app. All trades within the Dopplle app are made within a closed ecosystem, so no money will change hands – Dopplle Coins are your virtual currency.

Each item is automatically valued at 1 Dopplle Coin. However, you can change this in the ‘Pricing’ section when uploading or editing your item. Currently the options are either 0 or 1 Coins.

So why would you ‘price’ something at 0 coins vs 1 coin? We recommend choosing the 1 coin option for items that are in mint condition, high quality and from respected brands. But there is also great value in choosing the 0 coin option.

Just to summarise how to price an item:

SWAP – Choose 1 Dopplle Coin when you want to swap an item for another

DONATE  – Choose 0 Dopplle Coins when you want to donate your clothing to a new home for free

Here are a few reasons why you might want to choose the zero coin option:

Make a quick swap

Do you have a bunch of items that you want to get rid of quickly? Perhaps you’ve done a wardrobe clearout and realised that you have a bunch of items that you don’t wear anymore but are still in good condition. ‘Price’ them at 0 coins within the Dopplle app to encourage a much quicker swap.

Give it a new home

As you have hopefully enjoyed wearing your item of clothing, perhaps it’s time for it to go to a new home. Don’t just assume that if an item has a small tear, or a button missing, that it’s lifespan is over. Swappers, if given the chance, may be able to give your old clothes a new lease of life by mending or upcycling them.

Avoid landfill

Did you know that over 80% of textile waste is sent to landfill? Even charity shops send a large proportion of their clothes donations to waste. Dopplle gives students an accessible way to stop buying fast fashion and create less textile waste. You can further guarantee this by using the zero credit option, meaning that you are more likely to swap your item and save it from the dump.

Carbon Offset

For each item donated for zero coins, Dopplle will keep a record of these and include the figures as part of your personal carbon offset, helping to make it neutral each month. This means that these items of clothing will have no adverse impact on the environment.
